How to Get Your Chiropractic Clinic Found in AI Search (2026): ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Copilot and Perplexity

Reviewed by Dr. Ryan Goss, DC

Quick answer

Let the AI search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot, Bingbot) read your site, keep your Google and Apple listings complete, answer patient questions in plain text on service pages, add structured data that matches the page, keep reviews coming, and measure citations in Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

How we built this guide: every platform rule below comes from that platform's own documentation, linked inline and checked Oct 27, 2026. No platform guarantees that any clinic will be cited. Want to build or rebuild the site first? Start with How to build a chiropractic website with AI, then come back here.

Step 1: Let the AI search crawlers in

Each AI search tool uses its own crawler, and your robots.txt file (and your hosting firewall) decides whether it can read your site.

  1. ChatGPT search: OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in ChatGPT's search features, and sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. GPTBot is a separate setting for model training, so you can allow search while blocking training. OpenAI notes changes can take about 24 hours. Source: OpenAI, Overview of OpenAI crawlers (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  2. Perplexity: Perplexity says PerplexityBot surfaces and links websites in its search results and is not used to crawl content for AI foundation models. It recommends allowing PerplexityBot in robots.txt and in your firewall. Source: Perplexity crawlers (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  3. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal Search, starting with allowing crawling in robots.txt and by any CDN or hosting infrastructure. Source: Google Search Central, AI features and your website (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  4. Microsoft Copilot and Bing: make sure Bingbot is not blocked. Microsoft reports Copilot and Bing AI citations in Bing Webmaster Tools (see Step 6).
  5. Check your host or website builder. Some security settings block bots by default. Ask your web developer to confirm these crawlers are allowed.

Here is my clinic website's robots.txt file: [paste the contents of yoursite.com/robots.txt]. In plain English, tell me whether it allows or blocks these crawlers: OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot, Google-Extended and Bingbot. Then show me a corrected robots.txt that allows the search crawlers, and explain each line.

Step 2: Keep your business listings complete and matching

Google's list of fundamentals for AI features includes checking that your Business Profile information is up to date. Source: Google Search Central (checked Oct 27, 2026).

  1. Google Business Profile: correct name, address, phone, hours, services and a link to your online scheduling page.
  2. Apple Business Connect: claim your location so your details show correctly in Apple Maps, with your logo, hours and photos; Apple also offers actions such as letting people schedule appointments. Source: Apple Business Connect (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  3. Bing Places and the major directories: use the exact same name, address and phone everywhere.

Template: copy and paste, then replace the [highlighted] fill-ins

I run [clinic name], a chiropractic clinic at [address], phone [phone]. Compare these listings I pasted below and list every place where the name, address, phone, hours or website link do not match exactly: [paste your Google, Apple, Bing, Yelp and Facebook details].

Step 3: Answer patient questions in plain text on your site

Google recommends making sure important content is available in textual form and easy to find through internal links. Source: Google Search Central (checked Oct 27, 2026). AI tools can only cite what they can read.

  1. One page per service (for example, adjustments, decompression, sports care, prenatal care), each with who it's for, what a visit looks like and how to schedule.
  2. A New Patients page with what to expect, insurance or payment options, parking and a schedule button.
  3. A short FAQ on each service page using the questions patients actually ask your front desk.
  4. Your city and neighborhood in the text, the way a patient would say it.
  5. Link the pages together from your menu and from related pages.

Template: copy and paste, then replace the [highlighted] fill-ins

Act as a chiropractic website copywriter. Write a FAQ section for my [service] page at [clinic name] in [city]. Use these real questions our front desk gets: [paste 5 to 8 questions]. Answer each in 2 to 3 plain-English sentences, do not make medical claims or promises, and end with a line inviting the reader to schedule an appointment.

Step 4: Add structured data that matches the page

Google says your structured data should match the visible text on the page, and that there is no special schema.org markup required for AI features. Source: Google Search Central (checked Oct 27, 2026). Standard markup still helps search engines read your basics: schema.org has a MedicalClinic (checked Oct 27, 2026) type for your name, address, phone, hours and services.

Template: copy and paste, then replace the [highlighted] fill-ins

Write JSON-LD structured data for my clinic using the schema.org MedicalClinic type. Name: [clinic name]. Address: [address]. Phone: [phone]. Hours: [hours]. Website: [URL]. Services: [list]. Only include facts I gave you. Then tell me where to paste it on my site.

Step 5: Keep reviews coming

Reviews are part of your Google Business Profile, which Google lists among the things to keep up to date. Ask patients for reviews consistently, reply to every review, and follow Google's review policies.

Step 6: Measure what AI search sends you

  1. Google Search Console: Google says traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in the Performance report under the "Web" search type. Source: Google Search Central (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance: launched as a public preview in February 2026, it shows how often your pages are cited in Microsoft Copilot and Bing AI answers, which pages are cited and the queries behind them. Sources: Bing Webmaster Blog (checked Oct 27, 2026); Bing Webmaster Tools help (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  3. Your analytics: watch referral traffic from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and similar sites, and ask new patients how they found you.
  4. Spot-check monthly: ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google "best chiropractor near [your neighborhood]" and note whether you're mentioned and which pages are cited.

Step 7: Optional extras: IndexNow and llms.txt

  1. IndexNow lets your site notify participating search engines when pages are added, updated or deleted. Many website platforms and SEO plugins support it. Source: IndexNow (checked Oct 27, 2026).
  2. llms.txt is a proposed standard: a plain-text file that summarizes your site for AI tools. Source: llmstxt.org (checked Oct 27, 2026). Google says you don't need AI text files to appear in its AI features, so treat this as optional.

FAQ

Do I need special code to appear in Google AI Overviews?

No. Google says there are no additional requirements or special optimizations to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Normal SEO basics apply: allow crawling, make content available as text, keep structured data matching the page and keep your Business Profile up to date.

If I block GPTBot, will my clinic disappear from ChatGPT search?

Not by itself. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot are independent settings: OAI-SearchBot controls whether your site can appear in ChatGPT search, and GPTBot relates to training. Sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers.

Does Perplexity use my site to train its AI?

Perplexity says PerplexityBot is used to surface and link websites in its search results and is not used to crawl content for AI foundation models.

How can I see if Copilot cites my clinic?

Bing Webmaster Tools has an AI Performance report (public preview since February 2026) that shows citations in Microsoft Copilot and Bing AI answers.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

It's optional. llms.txt is a proposed standard, and Google says you don't need AI text files to appear in its AI features.
